Charles III officially proclaimed King at ceremony in London

King Charles III

King Charles III was officially proclaimed monarch on Saturday after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, in the first Accession Council ceremony to be held in 70 years. The council, made up of 200 Privy Counsellors-primarily current and former politicians and other dignities-proclaimed Charles III's ascension to the throne in the state apartments of St. James's Palace London.

When Charles become the King his wife Camilla will become the Queen consort. There'll also be changes in the titles of other members of the royal family, Prince William will become the Duke of Cornwall and in the time will be invested as the Prince of Wales.

Proclamation

King Charles III has been formally proclaimed monarch at an accession Council which was televised for the first time in the history. The king personally asked for the television cameras to be allowed in the Accession council.

He described Queen Elizabeth II's death as an "irreparable loss" and her reign as an unequalled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion. Further he told the council," I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me". He promised to follow in the steps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth.

Coronation

Traditionally the coronation of the new monarch takes place at least six months after the passing of the old one. This is to allow for an appropriate period of mourning, so we expect the coronation of King Charles to take place within the next year.
