The news came from Balmoral that she was having treatment or that indeed they were unable to help her majesty anymore.

A few moments ago Buckingham palace announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The palace just issued the statement, it says the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

The King that is Charles and the Queen consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.


The Queen at 96, 70 years as a Queen, 70 years of service, an extraordinary life, which is incredibly difficult to put into words. What an wonderful life and what an absolute commitment to duty and service.

Queen Elizabeth II died at 96 after 70-year-reign. A statement from the Royal family said, "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral Castle"


She became Queen in 1952 at the age of 25 and spent 70 years on the throne. She had pledged to serve her people, which she fulfilled through a combination of skill and a sense of duty. Her reign began with a six month tour of Commonwealth. She believed the institution should move away from empire and become more about friendship and equal rights between nations.

It was during second world war that then princess Elizabeth gave her first address to the nation saying that when the peace returned "it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place. 

She joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the first female in the royal family to become a full-time member of the armed forces.


Prince Charles is set to become King as the United Kingdom enters an official period of mourning. Upon Charles' ascension, Camila, Duchess of Cornwell, will take on a new title of Queen Consort.
